Rushcliffe is set to receive £116,439 as part of a new national programme to help people sleeping rough get off the streets and into safe, settled accommodation.
The funding forms part of a £442 million package announced by the Government last week to provide support this winter, alongside longer-term accommodation and practical help for people facing homelessness.
The programme aims to ensure that people sleeping rough have a route into accommodation, with support also available to help people address issues around housing, health and other challenges that can make it difficult to move on from homelessness.
For Rushcliffe, the funding will provide additional resources to support local efforts to prevent and tackle rough sleeping, helping people move towards a more secure and stable future.
James Naish, MP for Rushcliffe, said:
“No one should have to sleep rough, and our experience during the Covid-19 pandemic shows that we can make quick and rapid progress in this area.
“I’m pleased that there will be more funding this winter – it will give organisations in Rushcliffe more support and help to get people across Nottinghamshire off the streets and into somewhere safe.
“However, while getting someone a bed for the night is important, it’s only the first step. We also need to make sure that people have the support they need to find somewhere secure to live and to get back on their feet.
“There are already fantastic organisations locally, like The Friary, doing important work to support people facing homelessness in our area. This funding should help to build on that and make sure that more people can get the help they need at critical moments.”
The Government has also announced plans for more than 1,000 settled homes to be delivered across England over the next three years, alongside intensive support to help people rebuild their lives.
A national summit on rough sleeping is being planned for the autumn, bringing together charities, businesses, health organisations, faith groups and other organisations to look at how they can contribute to tackling homelessness.
